Breast Reduction is a surgical procedure wherein the breasts are reduced by removing excessive fats, skin tissues, and any previous implants. This surgery is more often performed on women than men and every year there is an increase in the percentage of women opting for this surgery. With the advancement in the medical field, this surgery leaves minimal scars. Nowadays, sportspersons have also decided to go in for a breast reduction surgery in an attempt to eventually improve the level of their game. Most among them are tennis players who feel that reducing their breast size will help them perform in a better manner because it is perceived that tennis requires an agile and athletic body so that one can move around quickly.
Breast reduction surgery is performed on women who have larger breasts and the reason tennis players might opt for it is because the weight of the breasts may cause severe pain in the neck and back. It can cause some concern since tennis needs to be practiced a lot and having pain often in the back or neck causes a huge amount of discomfort. It can also lead to a far more serious condition if appropriate steps are not taken. Another reason for a breast reduction surgery might be pain in the head and the shoulders. Women with large breasts often experience this problem as it disturbs the balance of the body and also makes playing tennis difficult. Some tennis players might opt for a surgery because they do not feel comfortable or are embarrassed because of the size of their breasts.
The breast reduction surgery is conducted on a patient using general anesthesia and it takes quite a few weeks to recover and get used to the new breasts. Tennis players are advised to take complete rest and later go through the required therapy before actually playing full – fledged tennis. There are, however, some risks that are involved with this surgery, such as permanent scarring, difficulty in breast feeding and asymmetry. These are some of the most common concerns where breast reduction surgery is concerned. There has always been some debate whether tennis players should go in for this surgery or not. Some feel it is quite an unnecessary step, whereas some others feel it is vital for players with large breast to undergo this surgery to improve their game.
