A breast reduction is performed by placing the incisions in the natural crease, around the areolas and down vertically connecting the two other incisions. The surgeon then removes the excess skin and tissue and the nipple and areola are repositioned higher. There are times when liposuction is required to remove additional fat deposits from underneath the arm as a part of the procedure. Recovery is around two weeks, though steps must be taken in that time period to ensure healing. For the first few days, to combat swelling and discomfort, a support bra is worn over the bandaging. The bandages are removed after a few days and the stitches are taken out around two weeks post-op.
